CCM Exam Secrets Study Guide CCM Test Review for the Certified Case Manager Exam Books
I am giving this publication the same review I gave another CCM test preparation module because I found them to be virtually identical to one another, the only difference being the total number of questions and they both had the same flaw- they were not accurate representations of the actual exam. First, I will say that I sat for the CCM in August 2016, the first time the exam was given under a new format, however my coworkers who had all tested and certified prior to me all had the same comments on these test-prep products, don't put great stock into them. If you are a person who has test anxiety and you want to simply practice "testing" then I would say these products would be worthwhile for you; there IS good information to be found in them, and some of the questions did appear verbatim on my actual exam. HOWEVER, if you are interested in knowing what you need to really KNOW for the exam you can save your money! These practice exams tended to be overly focused on resource utilization and they had a far greater proportion of in-depth (nit-picky) questions than you will see on the actual exam. Review the CCMC Code of Professional Conduct and the Glossary of Terms. If you can familiarize yourself to those concepts you will be well started. Review the major legislative actions related to Medicare and Disability. Be familiar with the different types of managed care and payment systems like HMOs, PPO's, POS, capitation, prospective payment, DRGs, fee-for-service, etc. Workers compensation and return to work processes were frequently addressed. Understand basic change processes, analysis and quality improvement principles. Interpersonal communication, negotiation and motivational interviewing are addressed. I say again, a familiarity with the major concepts of each topic is all you need, no crazy, super-specific details! If you review that Glossary of Terms and Code of Professional Conduct to guide your studies, you will have 80% of this exam easily mastered.Product details

CCM Exam Secrets Study Guide CCM Test Review for the Certified Case Manager Exam Books Reviews
I ordered this for my case management certification exam. It was very helpful because it is just hundreds of questions. I find doing practice questions very helpful for these types of tests as opposed to reading pages and pages of information. The questions varied in difficulty. I passed the CCM exam on the first try and attribute it to my studying and exposure to many practice questions.
HOWEVER, it should be noted that this book, along with another practice book I bought, did not accurately reflect the questions on the actual certification exam. I also bought the online practice test from the CCM website itself. Even these were not a great indicator of the test questions. I have been an RN case manager for two years, have an MSN degree in health care administration, and reviewed materials from three different sources for this exam. There were questions on the exam regarding things I have never even heard of, let alone studied. Literally words I have never seen before were popping up in these questions. It was very frustrating.
So while this book was very helpful in my studying, it was not enough for me to be FULLY prepared for the CCM exam. But having studied material from multiple sources, I am not sure anything is going to really hit home with what's on the actual exam. I still recommend this book and just tell people to study as much as you can with what you have.
Because there are no specific preparatory books to refer to, you are left not knowing what to study for! There are a variety of Case Management settings. If you have only been in one of them, you need to be exposed to the others. This is where the study guide comes in. The test taking tips are helpful. The practice test questions are REALLY helpful. This guide helps you to grasp an idea of what topics will be covered. I had to use the internet to read and understand some of the vocabulary and concepts I had never heard before, but this was my only book. I purchased a CD from elswhere that was useless, but thats a different review! My preliminary results indicate I passed, but I have to wait another 4 weeks for the official verdict. I would have failed miserably without this guide. If you can afford to buy only one book I highly recommend this one.
I loved this book while preparing for the CCM exam - it was the most time efficient study tool and the most helpful. I passed the CCM exam in April, 2012 the first time I took it. The questions in this book are worded well and do prepare you to take the exam; in fact many of the questions were very similar and gave me confidence when actually taking the test. Highly, highly recommended!
I am in my tenth year of being a case manager and I thought it was time to take the exam. My employer wanted me to be certified so that put extra emphasis on reaching the goal. I read the book 4-5 times before I took the actual test. The third time I read it I highlighted the important parts. Then I took the 150 question test included in the book. The source of the test questions are retired questions from the actual exam. I scored a 70% grade, enough to pass the test. I read the book again and then I took an online test sold by prometric, the company that administers the actual test and I scored a 79. After all of the preparation I felt ready to take the test.
The book is well organized and not counting the excellent test taking tip section and the test, is only 103 pages. It makes it easy to read multiple times. I would recommend the book to people who are going to take the test.
